TMZ...Sam is a celebrity!

Sam had a big weekend. He met his first celebrity today! Spencer and I went to brunch with our neighbors at Taylor Hicks' new restaurant. We thought it would be funny to have him take a picture with Sam. The food was delicious, and we had a lot of fun. The restaurant had live music and a great atmosphere.

It was a weekend of firsts for Sam. Friday night Spencer and I went to dinner while my mom watched Sam for the first time. I craved sushi my entire pregnancy, so it was nice to finally be able to eat it. Saturday morning my friend Resia came over and took pictures of Sam. They turned out great! She is very talented. I want to figure out a way to post the entire album on the blog. I will have to play around with it. Sam also made his first trip to Target and Publix. Saturday night we grilled out with Christell and Brownlee. It was Sam's first neighborhood party, and he did great.

Hello Normal!

Things are starting to get back to normal...although it's a 'new normal' for Spencer and me. We are slowly starting to adjust. Sam had his 2 week doctor's appointment yesterday. He had grown a quarter inch and is in the 95 percentile in length. He does need to gain more weight, so we have decided to transition strictly to formula as of last night. I must say that it has been a relief. Breast feeding is intense and somewhat stressful. Now Spencer can help with his feedings, which I think he actually enjoys.

Sam projectile vomited on me last night. It was not quite as gross as I thought it would be. Spencer is soaking wet after each feeding. I think we may be overfeeding him. We are going to reduce the number of ounces to see if it helps.

I cannot believe how much he is already changing. He is so precious. Mom said today that she thought he was looking more and more like Spencer. He still looks like a sweet baby boy to me. I do not care who he favors. I do not think it is possible for us to love him any more than we do. Tomorrow is my birthday, but I already have the best birthday present in the entire world. Nothing can top it. I love you Sam!!!

1 Week Old Today

Today Sam turned 1 week old. We celebrated at my mom's house by taking several naps. Spencer, Sam and I have been staying here since we left the hospital on Thursday. It's been nice having my mom cook and clean for us, but we are excited about going home tomorrow. We have had lots of visitors who have brought us delicious food.

I have received several complaints from our faithful followers about the fact that I have not updated the blog since before he was born. I do apologize. I think Sam has his days and nights confused, so I am operating on adrenaline at this point. The lack of sleep is starting to catch up with me. Spencer realized tonight that Sam liked to sit in the swing that Aunt Katherine gave us. It may be a life saver. He is asleep in it now. Cross your fingers that it continues to work. He comes alive at night and sleeps like an angel all day.

Spencer goes back to work tomorrow. I am a little sad about it. It has been nice spending time together with Sam. I cannot wait to post all of the pictures of him meeting his friends and family at the hospital and at my mom's. I tried to take a picture of each person holding him for the first time. I am still learning how to operate this blog, but I will post the pictures soon. I want to figure out the best way to post them all. I did post a few new pictures from his first week of life. See below.

Sam's Birthday Eve

Tomorrow is the day. It is hard for me to decide if I am extremely nervous or crazy excited or a little of both. Luckily Spencer and I were able to keep ourselves busy all day. I noticed a hint of nervousness in Spencer for the first time today. It was sweet.

I just cannot wait to meet our sweet Sam!!! Hopefully we will be able to get some rest tonight. Something tells me that is not going to happen.

January 9th it is!

I went to the doctor yesterday, and we found out that Sam will be born on Monday, January 9, 2012! After listening to and noticing the position of his heartbeat, Dr. Foster thought there was a possibility that he was breech. The ultrasound revealed that he was not breech, just big and comfortable! The tech estimated that he weighed approximately 8 pounds 11 ounces (plus or minus a pound) and was in the 90th percentile for size.  Based on these numbers and a few other minor issues, I decided to have a C-section. Dr. Foster left it up to me but mentioned the likelihood that I would have to have a C-section no matter what method I chose. We feel good about our decision.

Monday cannot come fast enough!!! Time is dragging, and I'm trying to stay busy. My sweet dad met me for lunch today. I am about to make a list of meaningless tasks and errands for me to run tomorrow.

January 9th will always be important to us for obvious reasons. But if Alabama wins the National Championship game on January 9, 2012, this day will be especially unforgettable for Spencer.

No 2011 Tax Break for Us!

Spencer and I were hoping that Sam would make an early appearance in 2011. We are dying to meet him. Plus, the tax break would have been nice. Instead, we are in a holding pattern until Sam arrives. Spencer has had time off due to the holidays, which has been nice for me. I am getting a little impatient. Everyday, I find more closets to organize and clothes to clean. Having him here gives me a buddy to keep me busy. Today we woke up and went to breakfast, took a long drive and then came home to walk the dogs. Thankfully we had a fairly busy weekend as well. We stayed close to home but had lots of visitors. Spencer's aunt and uncle stopped by, and Buddy and Susu brought Lucy over for a visit on Saturday. My mom spent the night on NYE and cooked us a delicious dinner. We almost made it to midnight.

Sam's room is 100% ready. Eleanor spent the day with me over her holiday break to organize and rearrange his room. My sweet friends had just thrown me an amazing shower, so his room was filled with boxes and bags and clothes and goodies. It took us all day, but we found a place for everything. We had a blast doing it. Since neither of us have children, it was the blind leading the blind. It is nice to have such wonderful friends.

I go back to the doctor on Wednesday morning. Let's hope that Sam decides he is ready to meet us!
